COLORBLIND

My initial application to become a photography major at the Rochester Institute of Technology (the “Kodak School”) was turned down. They discovered I was color blind, having failed the Pseudoisochromatic Ishihara Color Plate Test. If you have seen cards with big round circles filled with colored dot patterns of hidden numbers, you will know what I am talking about. A photography professor who knew my work and capabilities strongly advocated that I re-apply, provided that I pass a test of comparing photos of normal color balance with copies of the same photos with some type of a color cast – like too much blue or yellow. I aced the color comparison test, and this got me accepted into the Biomedical Photographic Communications program. After all, I wasn’t planning to become a printer at a custom color photo lab anyway. These are subjects in colors the way that I see them, which have captivated me. So, am I color blind?
